PASSIVSINE®
Passive Harmonic Filter
The PassivSine® filter provides engineers with a ready-to-use standard solution for what was previously a very challenging engineering problem. It represents the most cost-effective solution for filtering harmonics generated by 6-pulse static converters (frequency converters, uninterruptible power supplies, rectifiers, battery chargers, etc.).

Description
The PassivSine® filter is a purely passive device consisting of a main filtering reactance combined with a relatively small capacitor bank and a line reactor. Its innovative design reduces all major harmonic currents generated by variable speed drives and other static converters with a 6-pulse input rectifier. The resulting total harmonic distortion of the current (THDI) is reduced to less than 8%.
It has been designed to meet the strict limits of IEEE Std 519 with high efficiency, and with greatly reduced cost and dimensions.
The PassivSine® filter is connected in series with the static converter to be filtered (frequency converter, uninterruptible power supply, rectifier, charger, etc.). For this purpose, its rating must be carefully chosen so that it is always higher than the maximum effective current (I-RMS max) drawn by the static converter. The filter’s efficiency range is between 40% and 100% of its rated load.
